Draining and inground swimming pool?

I need to drain my inground, concrete swimming pool, so I can do some patch work and paint. I’m not sure how to do this.

I had my pool drained about a year ago. My pool guy had a submersible pump that he used and left the pump on overnight to pump out the water thru the a garden hose and out to the drain. It took awhile to drain the pool but it worked. I think if you go to your local pool supply store they sell the pump.
